Overview of Robotics Process Automation (RPA)

What is RPA?

Robotics Process Automation, or RPA for short, is the utilization of robotic software to perform repetitive digital tasks that humans perform day-today operations, similarly to how physical robots and machine already help our current way of life.

It can perform perform repetitive and structured transactions processes.

Prerequisite: The process is lean, documented and has been standardized in practice.

The software uses bots, which works with multiple applications to perform tasks faster, better and in a more efficient way.

The robot should be a virtual worker who can be rapidly “trained” (or configured) to take over standard and routine tasks. No coding required.

What RPA Isn’t it?

RPA is not Screen scraping, Application Program Interface (API), Scripting or Macros.

What a RPA software can do for you?

  • Perform repetitive, structured transactions processes
  • Reads structured digital inputs: Email / Spreadsheets / Workflow / PDF / Database / ERP/CRM applications / Web Services
  • Operates on the user interface (UI) in the same way that a human would
  • Output/Upload the data: Email / Spreadsheets / Workflow / Database / ERP/CRM applications / Web Services / Report
  • Interact with and update multiple applications in a transactional manner to keep everything in sync
  • Perform calculations faster than humans
  • Validate data in places that are complex for people to understand

The advantage of RPA is interacting with multiple applications & systems.

Will a Robot take my job?

No! RPA is not AI, its just the replication of tasks at maximum speed. It is essentially a macro on steroids, that is not confined to a single program or system. It can free you up from repetitive and erroneous tasks, and help you focus on adding VALUE to the business and most importantly to our customers!

Benefits:

  • Improvement of data quality
  • Faster and simplified
  • Increase customer satisfaction
  • Employees can focus on value added tasks
  • Cut down cost by letting machines handle repeatable processes 24×7
  • Scale up operations and processes rapidly when you need it

Target Use Cases for RPA Transformation:

  • Automated Data Entry like AP Invoice Processing/PO Creation/PO Acknowledgements/Sales Order creation/Bank Statement Upload/Daily FX upload
  • Application Monitoring
  • Repetitive Tasks like Request for Quote automation process
  • Process Reconciliation
  • Data Validation
  • Processing Business rules

Blue Prism, UiPath and Automation Anywhere are some of the major vendors in the RPA Space.

Oracle Integration Cloud offers process automation capabilities. Oracle is partnered with UiPath and Automation Anywhere RPA vendors for many of its RPA service offerings.
